FATTAH: New Areas for Job Growth

We need to focus job training and business development in areas in which our city and region has an advantage. These industries include the medical field, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, chemicals and health care billing.

He hits the obvious industries but is not concrete. The best kind of business development is not bricks and mortar with ribbon cuttings. It’s establishing a favorable business environment. He needs to be more specific about what he would do? This answer does not demonstrate any knowledge of how to get the city economy growing.

Higher education has been a big engine of growth. He did not mention it. As a trustee of Temple University he has done little to bring national resources while all these other congresspersons have been getting earmarks to build their universities. Ted Kennedy moved large amounts of homeland security funds to Boston schools for example. Kurt Weldon did more for Drexel than Fattah and Drexel is in Fattah’s district.
