MAKING THE BOARD OF ETHICS MORE INDEPENDENT

93% of the survey respondents thought that an independent Board of Ethics could have an important role in dealing with governmental corruption.

Presently the Mayor appoints the five members of the Board of Ethics to five-year terms subject to Council approval.

Would you support a Charter change requiring that appointees be chosen from a single list of 10 to 15 candidates selected by a nominating committee composed of civic leaders, such as the presidents of the City’s five largest institutions of higher learning? If not, why not?
